The dkret³ theme

Dkret³ is a very flexible theme. It is the result of ongoing improvements over the two years now.

This theme is my opinion of how wordpress themes should work. It is way more than just the look.

I put a lot of efford on the "inside" of this theme too.

Theme Options

Every theme option available is there for your convenience, but they won't bloat your site or get in the way of your customization.

Plus, dkret³ theme options only leave a single entry in your database, which reduces the clutter of multiple options that many plugins and themes add.

Widgets

The theme comes with a lot of Widgets. You can place widgets in one of seven sidebars.

Plus, widget areas completely collapse if you don't use them.

Page Templates

The theme is packaged with loads of useful page templates. Page templates change the way a page displays or functions depending on the particular template you've chosen.

Bookmarks

Will produce an unordered list of your links by default.

No Widgets

For use on pages where you don't want any widgets displayed.

Quick Post

Have your own 'oldschool' Guestbook for your blog.

Schemes

The theme comes with some powerful schemes which change the look fundamentely. You decide whether you want your siderbar to be on the left or right side. You can even run dkret³ without a sidebar at all.

Sidebar Left Scheme

Display the sidebar on the left side of your blog posts.

Double Sidebar Left Scheme

Two Sidebars next to each other on the left side of your blog posts.

Double Sidebar Right Scheme

Two Sidebars next to each other on the right side of your blog posts.

Sidebar Left and Right

Newspaper like style.

Sidebar Top and Right Scheme

One sidebar on top of your blog posts (advertising) and one on the right side.

Sidebar Small Scheme

More room for your blog posts. Less width for sidebar widgets.

Sidebar Off Scheme

You don't need a sidebar at all? Remove it!

Child Themes

The dkret³ theme is also a good staring point for your own design ideas. It is meant to be used as a base theme to build from. You can extend it through child themes.

Just create a new theme folder in your /wp-content/themes directory. Call it something like My dkret. So, you'd have a directory like /wp-content/themes/my-dkret. Then, create a style.css file within your theme folder. At the top, add this information:

Now, you have your own theme! Of course, you might want to style it.

The best idea for slight changes is to IMPORT the default dkret3 style.css and only add code changes. Updates to the base dkret³ theme won't (most likely) force an update to the child themes style.css.

The style.css is the default theme CSS that you can overwrite.
