Exoteric Documentation

Exoteric is a clean, minimal in appearance, but not minimal in features WordPress blogging theme. This theme has support for all post formats, sixteen page templates, well formatted PHP & CSS which makes customization a breeze!

Installing the theme using the uploader

You can install the theme through the built-in WordPress theme uploader.

1. Go to Appearance > Themes > Install Themes in your WordPress admin.
2. Click on the "Upload" link.
3. This will take you to a page where you can upload the exoteric.zip file to your WordPress install.
4. Once installed, you can activate the theme and use it for your WordPress installation.

Installing the theme using FTP

If you prefer to do things manually, this is the best option for you.

1. Unzip the exoteric.zip file to your computer.
2. Upload the exoteric folder to your wp-content/themes directory on your WordPress install using your preferred FTP software.
3. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate the theme.

Menu Locations

This theme supports one menu location, you can even add a class to a link to make it stand out from other menu items. To do so, you will have to click "Screen Options" and select "CSS Classes" under "Show advanced menu properties".

Chat Post Format

1. Select "Chat" in the "Format" meta box.
2. Each line must be formatted as follows:

User A: Text…
User B: Text…

Gallery Post Format

1. Select "Gallery" in the "Format" meta box.
2. Upload any number of images using the WordPress media uploader and every image will be shown in a slideshow.

Image Post Format

1. Select "Image" in the "Format" meta box.
2. Upload a single image and attach it to the "Feature Image" meta box.

Video Post Format

1. Select "Video" in the "Format" meta box.
2. All you have to do to display a video in a post is simply place a URL in the post editor and WordPress should automatically embed the video for you. In some instances, you may have to use an embed code.

Page templates can be created by navigating to Pages > Add New in the admin menu.
