F2 WordPress theme v1.0.3
F2 is a fast loading flexible width theme for WordPress. F2 is developed by Srini G and is released under the GPL.
Features and notes
- Flexible width (fluid width) layout. This means the layout shrinks and grows to fit display windows.
- Two sidebars. One or both of the sidebars can be optionally turned off.
- Customizable header, and much more options available in the 'F2 Settings' page in admin panel.
- Supports all new WordPress features like nested comments, comments paging, sidebar widgets, post tags and gravatars.
- Compatible with WordPress v2.8 and above. The theme is not compatible with older versions of WordPress. If you are particular about hanging on to older WP versions, try Fluid Blue, the precedessor to this theme.
- Valid XHTML and CSS.
- The theme is tested successfully in Firefox 3.0, 3.5, Chrome 2.0, IE 8 and Opera 9.63. Except a few minor issues, the theme works well in IE 6 too.
- Supports localization.
Installation
- After extracting the f2.zip file, copy the 'f2' folder to '/wp-content/themes/' directory in your web server.
- Log in to WP admin and select the 'Themes' sub-menu under the 'Appearance' menu.

- Activate the theme.
- Click 'Visit Site' at the top of the admin panel screen. Your selection should immediately become active.
- Once activated, the theme can be customized through the 'F2 Settings' sub-menu under the 'Appearance' menu in WP admin panel.
Hacks
The settings page gives you a variety of options for you to customize the theme, but here are some more things you can do.
Links page: If you have a large number of blogroll links to show off, you can have a links page that will list all your links in a page. Just create a new page, name it as something like 'Links', choose the template 'Links', leave the page blank, and publish.
Archives page: Just like the links page, you can have an archives page that will list all your categories, tags and monthly archive links. Create a new page and choose the template 'Archives'.
Horizontal navigation menu: By default, the horizontal navigation menu displays inside the header. This looks pretty if you have just a few items for the menu, but looks ugly if you have a large number of items. You make it such that the horizontal menu displays below the header if so desired, just open the style.css file, scroll towards the bottom and follow the instructions.
Translating the theme
The translation template file is named f2.pot and is located in the 'languages' directory. The resulting PO and MO files should go in the 'f2/languages/' directory, and should be named in the format xx_YY.po and xx_YY.mo files respectively. Where xx refers to the language code and YY to the locale. For example, the German translation files will have the name de_DE.po and de_DE.mo. This xx_YY should be the same as the value you define for WPLANG in wp-config.php.
You can use an application like poEdit to translate the theme, or just translate the strings in the f2.pot file and send it to the theme author. All translations sent to the author will be bundled with the next version of the theme.
