Very cool question, my friend. It makes me a little bit confused :D
Ohm, at first glance, we will think that they are both the same in function. Both forum and Q&A are a place where people have the ability to ask questions about the product/service/problem they are interested and wait for responses.
Even if they look the same from the outside, they are very different on the inside.
Forum.
An online forum is a discussion area. A topic of discussion is posted and people can respond, discuss, give their own ideas or evoke further conversations…Of course, you can get several answers but some of which will be nothing and the question ended inconclusively.
Q&A
Although, the Q & A is similar to a “forum-style” of open, free for discussion like Quora or Stack Overflow but, on Q&A you will get specific answers that are 100% related to your question. It means that Q & A is very directed toward problem solving.
In addition, users can pick the best answer, which will then float to the top making it more easier for other users to find out.
Regarding the interaction and community, the Q & A isn’t as strong as forum.

We're working on sending fewer emails for people who use our DWQA often and primarily get notifications while logged in. If you want to select what email notifications you get:

Go to your backend >> Questions >> Settings >> Notifications.
Choose if you want to receive all notifications, important notifications or only notifications about your account

If you're still having issues with email notifications, try these troubleshooting tips:

Make sure you setup the general settings.
Check your spam or junk email filter to make sure that emails coming from the site used DWQA aren't being placed in this folder.
If you're still not receiving emails, please contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to ensure that they aren't blocking email traffic.
If the issue continues, please let us know here.

Currently, our DWQA allows uploading images with URL link, not from your computer because of the security. It's difficult to use a little, but will protect your site from spam or risk files.

To redirect users to a different page or list questions when user submit a answer, please open the wp-content/plugins/dw-question-answer/inc/Posts/Answer.php file. Find the line 408.
Replace the following code:

// wp_redirect( get_permalink( $question_id ) ); // wp_send_json_success( array( 'url' => get_permalink( $question_id ) ) ); // return true;

With new code:

wp_redirect('https://your-site.com'); wp_send_json_success( array( 'url' => get_permalink( $question_id ) ) ); return true;

To redirect users to a different page when user submit a question, please open the Question.php file in the folder path wp-content -> plugins -> dw-question-answer -> inc -> Post -> Question.phpfile. Find the line code around line 439:

exit( wp_safe_redirect( get_permalink( $new_question ) ) );`

Then replace with the following code to redirect to home page:

exit( wp_safe_redirect( home_url() ) );

Notice: you can use similar to redirect user to any other page as you wish (in your case to the question listing page) Eg: like this is my url :http://mysite/discussion-forum/

About the permalink of categories, have you tried to add the permalink in the Settings of Q&A
